Pastor and First Lady

Rev. Dr. William A. Greene,Jr. was called as pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Toms River on October 1, 1992 and has served as pastor for twenty one (21) years.

He is a graduate of Lincoln University (PA). He received a Masters of Business Administration from New York University; Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, New Brunswick, NJ.

He was licensed to preach by the Second Baptist Church, Matawan, NJ in 1980 and ordained in 1984 by the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association. During approximately 33 years of ministry he has served as Associate Minister Second Baptist Church, Matawan, NJ; Assistant to the Pastor Second Baptist Church Long Branch; Assistant Pastor Second Baptist Church Long Branch; and numerous other church administration positions.

He is a former instructor and president of the Monmouth Bible Institute, Farmingdale, NJ and has conducted numerous workshops and seminars for local and state ecclesiastical organizations. For three years he wrote an annual Lenten meditation(s) in the publication Liberation and Unity published by the Consultation on Church Union. He served as Treasurer and Financial Secretary for 10 years and 1st vice moderator of the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association.

During his tenure at Second Baptist Church of Toms River, Rev. Greene has implemented a prison and youth detention center outreach, nursing home outreach, shelter, clothing, and feeding the homeless programs, ecumenical fellowship outreach, the establishment of community worship services and increased civic involvement by the church. The church produced a weekly television program broadcasting on two channels. The church partnered with O.C.E.A.N.,Inc. to provide computer and Internet training to the community and is a Church of Promise with the United Way of Ocean County Children’s Leadership Council. The church provides food, shelter and fellowship to the homeless through a partnership with Christ Episcopal Church which serves as a host church in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. The church provides to the community a monthly food distribution of one (1) week of groceries to assist families through the “food emergency” week of the month. The church provides an annual Thanksgiving dinner delivered to the homeless and those in need located in the hotels and motels in Toms River and surrounding communities. The church partners with Homes for All, Northern Habitat for Humanity, and STEPS to coordinate and provide community development outreach. The church has been active with the Toms River Branch NAACP throughout the twenty one years of Rev. Greene’s pastorate. Rev. Greene has actively involved the church in civic involvement improving the quality of life and Shalom of the community. The church adopted the late Rev. Annabelle Freeland as its foreign missionary providing support for the Annabelle Freeland A.M.E. Church in Haiti.

He has held various managerial positions with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, AT&T Resource Management Corporation, Accurate Information Systems Corporation, Business Administrator/Board Secretary for the Willingboro Board of Education (NJ), and is currently the Comptroller for the Elizabeth Board of Education, Elizabeth, New Jersey. Rev. Greene and his wife Barbara reside in Keyport, NJ and have three adult children: Michael, Andrea, and Elliot.

Mrs. Barbara Greene

Mrs. Barbara Greene is the First Lady and Church Musician of the Second Baptist Church

of Toms River, New Jersey where her husband, Rev. Dr. William A. Greene, Jr. is pastor. In

October 2012 Dr. and Mrs. Greene celebrated 20 years of service with the church.

Mrs. Greene has served as the church musician for the entire twenty years directing the

Youth Choir and Adult Choir. As church musician she is responsible for directing the choirs and selecting the music program for all worship services. Before coming to Second Baptist Church of Toms River she was the church musician for the Second Baptist Church of Matawan, New Jersey for 18 years.

Mrs. Greene began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. She studied music and piano devoutly, learning to read music and play the piano and organ until she graduated from

high school. Through the guidance of her grandmother she began playing for the choir at the Second Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Pennsylvania as a teenager. During her service at the Second Presbyterian Church she recognized her calling to spread the gospel through music and has served in the music ministry for over forty-five years.

Mrs. Greene has touched many lives through the messages contained within the hymns

and gospel songs of the church. She is a member of the Women's Ministry and is always ready and available to assist in missionary ministries of her church.

In March 2012, in celebration of Women's History Month, the NAACP Ocean County-

Lakewood Branch Scholarship Fund and Omega 13, Incorporated recognized and honored Mrs.

Greene as “An Ordinary Woman Making Extraordinary Contributions to her Community.”

Mrs. Greene is a 2006 graduate of the Monmouth Bible Institute, Farmingdale, New

Jersey. She studied piano, organ and choral ensemble music at the Hampton Ministers

Conference, Hampton, Virginia. She has also attended the GIA African American Music

Workshops studying choral ensemble music under the direction of Dr. James Abbington.

Mrs. Greene has been employed as an Administrative Assistant for Dr. Wayne F. Nolte,

Professional Engineer for 24 years.

Mrs. Greene has called Keyport, New Jersey home for 38 years. Dr. and Mrs. Greene

have three children and one grandson.
